Volkswagen Sees Drop in Sales for July

DSC_0717Volkswagen announced financial results for July 2014.  The company’s total sales in July dropped 14.6% year-over-year, down to 30,553 units sold from 35,779 sold in July 2013.

Sales for each of the company’s major brands also declined year-over-year.   The Beetle brand saw the largest year-over-year decrease in sales, with total Beetle sales dropping 53.3% to 2,452 units sold.  Sales of the company’s Passat and Tiguan brands also decreased significantly year-over-year, with Passat sales dropping 13.8% to 8,668 units sold and Tiguan sales falling 6.6% to 2,121 vehicles sold.

The company sold 13,142 total Jetta brand vehicles in July, a small year-over-year drop of 1.8%.  However, sales of the Jetta SportWagen in particular saw a larger decrease of 7.6% to 2,134 vehicles sold in July.

Total sales of the Golf brand declined 8.3% year-over-year to 2,446 vehicles sold in July, although sales of the Golf GTI brand in particular saw a significant year-over-year increase of 39.4% to 1,727 units sold in July.
