IMG_8746 (1)Honda announced it will offer the new Clarity model both as a plug-in hybrid and an electric vehicle. The original Clarity is powered by a fuel cell.

The two models, the Clarity Electric and the Clarity Plug-In Hybrid, are slated to launch in the United States in 2017. Honda says the Clarity will be the first vehicle in the industry to be available with these three electrified powertrains.

“The Honda Clarity Series will provide customers with a well-equipped, premium, midsize vehicle with range of ultra low-carbon powertrain options to suit their lifestyle needs,” said John Mendel, executive vice president at Honda’s automobile division.

The five-passenger Clarity Fuel Cell will launch in the United States in late 2016, followed by the Clarity Electric in 2017 and the Clarity Plug-In Hybrid in late 2017. The latter will offer an all-electric driving range of over 40 miles (64 kilometers).
