DSC_0458DETROIT—Beleaguered German automaker Volkswagen said Wednesday it had reached a $4.3 billion settlement with the U.S. government over the Dieselgate scandal.

As part of the deal, the company will plead guilty to misconduct for deliberately selling diesel-powered cars that did not meet federal emissions regulations.

“Volkswagen deeply regrets the behavior that gave rise to the diesel crisis,” said Matthias Müller, the company’s CEO.

The company said that the resolution is comprised of four settlements including a plea agreement with the Department of Justice that includes a Statement of Facts that documents the company’s misconduct in the diesel matter.
