Volkswagen Group Sells 100,000 TDI Clean Diesel Vehicles

Volkswagen Group of America announced that it hit a major milestone in diesel sales on Friday.

The Wolfsburg-based automaker reported that it had sold over 100,000 TDI Clean Diesel vehicle as of December 20.  It’s the first time the automaker has reached this figure in one calendar year.

Volkswagen Group offers 12 different diesel-powered vehicles in the U.S., including the Audi A6 TDI, Aud A7 TDI, Audi A8 L TDI, Volkswagen Beetle TDI, Volkswagen Jetta TDI, and Volkswagen Passat TDI.

Since VW started selling diesels in 1977, the automaker has sold more than one million cars in these markets.  It currently holds three-quarters of the U.S. diesel passenger car market.

Currently, seven automakers offer diesels in the U.S. in addition to Volkswagen Group companies including BMW, Chevrolet, Jeep, and Mercedes-Benz.
