Volkswagen’s U.S. Diesel Strategy: An Interview with Doug Skorupski
VOLKSWAGEN’S FUTURE DIESEL STRATEGY
JS: Are there any changes in the diesel strategy that you want to discuss?
DS: Not much will change. We will continue to evolve our engines, make them more efficient, and reduce the cost. We are studying our entire model range for more opportunities to add diesel engines.
JS: Do you plan to offer more diesel variants than the current engine beyond what’s [resently available?
DS: We discuss this constantly, but I can’t go into detail. We plan to explore and push the bounds of diesel technology. It is truly a unique selling point and we will leverage our history and success with it as best we can.
JS: Does the rising and constantly changing cost of diesel fuel concern you? What about biodiesel blends?
DS: In terms of cost, and keeping in mind that fuel prices have stabilized somewhat, when you look at the total cost of ownership, there is a significant advantage to diesel, even with higher fuel prices. We are not concerned about biodiesel blends and will be able to share information about this in the near future.
JS: Is there anything that you would like to say directly to our readers?
DS: Thanks for the support. Continue watching VW, we have a lot of things coming forward in the future that will be of great interest to you. Look for more to come from the VW brand. We think that the future is bright for diesel.
