Ford Motor Company unveiled Sync 4, the newest iteration of its in-vehicle infotainment system.

Sync 4 will introduce wireless Apple CarPlay as well as wireless Android Auto compatibility along with new displays that range from 8” to 15.5” diagonally.  The new version also adds cloud connectivity for Internet search as well as machine learning that learns a driver’s preferences and makes recommendations on past activities.

BMW was the first automaker to introduce wireless CarPlay on its 7 Series two years ago and Toyota announced support for Wireless CarPlay on the 2020 Supra earlier this year.

The Dearborn-based automaker said it will tailor Apple CarPlay on its displays where it will be available as a window within the Sync interface.

Ford didn’t specify which 2020 Ford or Lincoln vehicles will get Sync 4 and wireless CarPlay but it is likely that any vehicles getting a mid-life refresh or complete redesign will feature it.
