Cadillac Presses Pause on Vehicle Subscription Service
General Motors said it was suspending its Book by Cadillac vehicle subscription on December 1, ahead of a planned relaunch in 2019.
The program was revolutionary when it launched in February 2017 with an $1,800 fee that included registration, taxes, insurance, and maintenance with no limit on mileage.. The first city where the program was offered was New York.
Indeed, GM was among the first to offer a vehicle subscription service with Book by Cadillac. The move was followed by BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Audi, Porsche, and Volvo.
While Cadillac increased the price of the subscription by $300 per month and limited monthly mileage, BMW actually lowered prices by introducing an entry-level tier in August of this year for $1,099. Meanwhile, Volvo offers a subscription program – albeit with limited substitutions – for $600 per month.
The plan to remake Book by Cadillac comes after the appointment of a new division president and the relocation of the brand’s headquarters from New York City back to Detroit.
