Review and Test Drive: 2018 Nissan Murano Platinum AWD

The Nissan Murano is one of the SUVs whose appearance once a year everyone at Frequent Business Traveler/The Green Car Driver looks forward to. We love the Murano not only because it’s good looking but because it offers driver and passengers luxurious surroundings at a very reasonable price.

For 2018, the Murano comes with an impressive array of standard equipment. New for the current model year are an 8” touchscreen with NissanConnect Navi, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and satellite radio. More importantly, Nissan added two key driver assistance technologies, automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning.

Our Cayenne Red Murano arrived on a cold January day at our offices and we found that the top of the line Platinum edition had some new standard features as well, including 20” alloy wheels, LED headlights, heated and cooled ventilated front seats, NissanConnect telematics, a huge panoramic moonroof, a power tilt and telescoping steering wheel, and if you’re wondering how Nissan can afford to offer all this, no need to, as the Platinum’s MSRP went up accordingly.


NissanConnect includes automatic collision notification, emergency call service, stolen vehicle locator, and an app that allows drivers to start and stop the engine remotely, honk the horn, and unlock and lock the doors.


The Murano’s designer, Ken Lee, told FBT Editorial Director in 2015 at the car’s launch drive that he drew inspiration for the interior from the dawn of the jet age and strove to pamper driver and passengers with luxurious surroundings. The inspiration may have been jet age but the Nissan Zero Gravity seats are space age, inspired by the weightlessness of space.

Once in the driver’s seat, we found that the center console had been redesigned as well.
