Mercedes-Benz announced availability of the 2017 smart fortwo electric drive coupe and cabrio.

At $23,800 for the coupe and $28,000 for the cabrio, the two will be among the least expensive electric vehicles in the United States.

The 2017 models will feature new a higher top speed and more powerful motor than previous versions.

The car’s 80-horsepower electric motor, which will be situated at the rear end of the vehicle, is capable of developing 188 pound-feet of torque on demand, a 23% increase of the outgoing model’s 96 pound-feet. It also gives the car a range of roughly 80 miles (129 kilometers).

A new and more powerful onboard charger effectively doubles the charging time. Mercedes said that it will take roughly two and a half hours to fully charge the vehicle, twice as fast as the predecessor model.
