Chevrolet announced details about the redesigned Equinox model, which will arrive for the 2018 model year.

The new Equinox will offer multiple powertrain options including a diesel. A nine-speed automatic transmission will be standard across the model range. The Equinox will feature an exterior design reminiscent of the GMC Acacia, a new and more spacious interior, and more safety and driver-assistance features than in prior generations.

The diesel option will be an all-new 1.5-liter turbocharged four cylinder that develops 136 horsepower. This engine is reportedly also destined for future Chevrolet Cruze models as well.

The first generation Equinox was introduced in 2004 as a 2005 model, while the second generation of the SUV debuted in 2009. Expect the petrol variants in showrooms in early 2017 and the oilburner by summer.
