But we still love diesels…

The Diesel Driver was founded in 2009 as the only U.S. publication that focused on the experience of owning and driving a diesel-powered automobile. Since that time we watched the market for diesels in the United States grow, launched the Diesel Car of the Year and Diesel Car Manufacturer of the Year award programs, and saw multiple new entrants into the marketplace.

We also tested dozens of fine diesel automobiles from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Volkswagen, among others, and enjoyed a series of long-term vehicles starting with our beloved BMW 335d, continuing with the BMW X5 xDrive35d, the BMW ActiveHybrid 5, the Mercedes-Benz E350 BlueTec, the Volkswagen Jetta TDI, the Chevrolet Cruze diesel, the Mercedes-Benz E250 BlueTec, and the BMW 535d.

The diesel market in the United States came to a crashing halt with the revelation that Volkswagen had installed emissions test cheating software on some of its diesel models.

We had planned to launch The Green Car Driver as a separate publication focused on the electric vehicle, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and alternative fuel experience, but instead opted to rechristen The Diesel Driver given how we’ve expanded its focus over the past few years in this respect.Staff, focus, and a passion for driving while green (with apologies to Kermit) all remain paramount at The Green Car Driver so please join us for the ride.
