New York, N.Y. – Volkswagen unveiled the new 2016 Passat at an event at the Brooklyn Navy Yard featuring featuring singer Lenny Kravitz on Monday

Up front, the American Passat features an updated design that includes slimmer headlights than its predecessor.. The only body panels that remain unchanged are the roof, the doors, and the body side stamping, VW said in a statement.

Inside, the car will be outfitted with a new instrument panel, as well as Volkswagen’s latest MIB II infotainment system, which features touchscreens as standards on all models. The car will also supports Apple Car Play.

Volkswagen said that heated rear seats will be available, as well a keyless entry feature that allows the driver to open the trunk using the movement of his foot.

Additional safety features and driver assistance systems will also be incorporated into the new Passat, including VW’s automatic post-collision braking system, which will be standard on all 2016 Passat models. Volkswagen said that the system was designed using the premise that a collision is not a single, instantaneous action, but a series of events that occur after initial impact.

Volkswagen will also, for the first time, offer an R-Line version of the Passat, which will feature a stylized front bumper, a modified rear diffuser, and 19” anthracite Salvador aluminum-alloy wheels.

The 2016 Passat is being built at Volkswagen’s factory in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the only LEED Platinum-certified manufacturing facility in the world, according to the car manufacturer.
