Volkswagen December Sales Up 0.1%, Annual Sales Drop 10%

Volkswagen released financial results for December 2014 and for calendar year 2014. For December, the company’s total U.S. sales were up 0.1% from November 2014, selling 34,058 vehicles as compared to 34,015. For the entire year, unit sales were 366,970, compared to 407,704 from the previous year, a decrease of 10%.
December saw total sales of the Golf (including the GTI and e-Golf) rise 137%. The company sold 4,405 vehicles as compared to 1,852 vehicles in December 2013. For the entire year, Golf sales rose 8.9% to 33,675 vehicles as compared to 30,931 for 2013.
Total sales of the Jetta (including the Jetta SportWagen) came out to 15,578 units, up 1.2% from the previous December. Total Jetta sales were 160,873 units for 2014, a decrease of 1.8%
Sales of the Wolfsburg-based automaker’s Beetle model saw the biggest decline, dropping 19.5% on sales of 2,270 vehicles. For the entire year, Beetle sales declined 32.3% to 29,182 units.
The Chattanooga-built Passat sales were 8,257 vehicles in December, a decline of 10.8%. Year over year Passat sales declined 11.9% to 96,649 units.
