Volkswagen Introduces Golf SportWagen HyMotion in Los Angeles

DSC_0842Volkswagen announced the debut its Golf SportWagen HyMotion, a research vehicle, at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. The vehicle is the first fuel cell powertrain vehicle based on the Modular Transverse Matrix.

The front-wheel-drive Golf SportWagen HyMotion will accelerate from a standstill to 60 miles per hour (100 km/h) in 10 seconds. The fuel cell system used develops 134 horsepower (100 kW)

The vehicle has four high-tech carbon fiber tanks with a capacity that enables a driving range of 310 miles (500 km). The tanks can be refilled in approximately three minutes.

The vehicle will also feature an electric motor and transmission that was adapted from the new e-Golf, as well as a high-voltage lithium-ion battery and a 12-volt battery.
