Volkswagen Reports Lower Sales in September
Volkswagen released financial results for September 2014. The company’s total sales in September were down 18.6 % from September 2013 when 31,920 vehicles were sold. This September, only 25,996 vehicles were sold.
Sales for the majority of the company’s models decreased from September of the previous year. The CC saw the biggest decline in sales dropping 56.4% while only selling 627 vehicles as compared to 1,437 vehicles from September 2013. Sales of the company’s Beetle and Tiguan also saw a decrease in sales from the previous year, with total Beetle sales dropping 48.8% to 1,821 vehicles sold and Tiguan sales dropping 30.4% to 1,674 vehicles sold.
The total vehicle sales of the Jetta (including the Jetta SportWagen) came out to 10,245, dropping 23% from the previous year when 13,309 vehicles were sold. The Eos also saw a decrease in sales dropping 27.3% while 216 units sold.
The bright spot in the Wolfsburg-based automaker’s report was the all-new Golf. Sales of the Golf increased by 93.1%, selling 1,887 vehicles as compared to 977 from the previous September. Also, sales of the Golf GTI increased by 47.6% selling 1,600 vehicles as compared to 1,084 from September 2013.
Diesel-powered automobiles accounted for 22% of sales in September, with 5,7515 cars sold. Volkswagen said that total diesel sales for 2014 were 63,099 through September, representing 23.3% of total sales volume. The Passat TDI accounted for 23.6% of the 7,280 Passats sold in September.
