DSC_0962Porsche announced a mid-life facelift for the Cayenne as well as an all-new hybrid-electric variant.

The new Cayenne S E-Hybrid will make its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show on October 2.  Porsche says it will be the first plug-in hybrid in the premium SUV segment.  The German automaker also sells the Panamera S E-Hybrid and the 918 Spyder plug-in hybrids.

The Cayenne S will have a fuel economy rating of 69 mpg (3.4 liters/100 km) and CO2 emissions of a mere 79 grams per kilometer.

The automaker also said it will present updates of multiple models including the Cayenne Diesel, Cayenne S Diesel, and the Cayenne S at the Paris show.  These models will receive a facelift, be more fuel efficient, and benefit from improved handling.  Porsche is also adding more standard equipment into the base models of these vehicles.

The Cayenne is a mid-sized crossover that was introduced in 2002 and first sold in the United States in 2003. It shares its platform with the Volkswagen Touareg and the Audi Q7.  The second generation Cayenne was introduced in 2010.

The Paris Motor Show, or Mondial de l’Automobile, was the world’s first auto show and remains one of the most important shows in the industry.
