Audi announced that, with sales of 158,061 vehicles, 2013 was its most successful year in the U.S.  For the fourth year running, the automaker has set a new record, this year reporting a 13.5% increase in sales over 2012.

The Ingolstadt-based automaker sold more than 10,000 diesels in 2013, accounting for 6.4% of its total sales.  Audi has a large diesel fleet including TDI models of the A3, A6, A7, A8, Q5, and Q7.

The most popular diesel vehicle, the Q7 TDI, accounted for 43% of diesel sales, or 2.7% of Audi’s total sales for 2013.  A quarter of all Q7 sales were for the diesel model.  In addition, 12.3% of Audi’s A8 sales were for A8 L TDI models.  Audi sold 774 of the luxury $83,395 vehicle.

December 2013 also marked Audi’s best month ever; the company sold 17,013 cars, surpassing 15,000 sales in a month for the firs time, and surpassing its previous record set in December 2012 by 14.6%.
