Porsche unveiled the Macan S Diesel, a compact SUV, on Wednesday.  A younger brother to the Cayenne, the Macan is named after the Indonesian word for tiger.

The Macan S Diesel will be equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel engine that develops 258 horsepower and can propel the vehicle to a top speed of 143 mph (230 km/h).  It can accelerate from zero to 62 Mph (100 km/h) in 6.3 seconds and will have an estimated fuel economy of 38 mpg (6.2 l/100 km).

In addition to the diesel model, the Macan will launch with two other powertrain options: Macan S and Macan Turbo.

The Macan S has a 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo engine, which develops 340 horsepower and takes the car to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.4 seconds. The vehicle reaches a top speed of 158 Mph (254 km/h), and has an estimated fuel economy of 26.6 mpg (8.85 l/100 km).

The Macan Turbo’s 3.6-litre V6 twin-turbo engine develops 400 horsepower and propels the vehicle to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.8 seconds.  The vehicle’s top speed is 165 mph (266 km/h), and it achieves an estimated fuel economy of 26 mpg (9.05 l/100 km).

In Germany, Porsche’s home market, the Macan S and Macan S Diesel will cost €57,930 including VAT. The Turbo model will be priced at €79.826, also including VAT.  Porsche says that all of the models will be available at German dealers starting April 5, 2014. There is no word yet on a U.S. release.
