In recent years, there has been a dramatic increase in sales of diesel-powered cars in the U.S.  DSC_0352More and more drivers are leaving petrol-powered cars behind, and many leading car manufacturers, including Chevrolet, Jeep, Mazda, and Porsche, have taken note; there are nearly twice as many diesel options today as there were two years ago, when diesels were only available from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen.

What are the reasons for the growth in diesel’s popularity?   In past polls, readers have highlighted better-than-average fuel economy, the extra power that comes from a diesel engine’s torque, and high reliability as critical factors in the purchasing decision.

Please tell us what was most influential in your decision to purchase a diesel.  We’ll compile and publish the results in an upcoming article.  In addition, if you have a particularly interesting story relating to your reasons, use this form to tell us about them and we may include your story in our article.

The poll will run through November 1, 2013.
