BMW 4 Series Convertible Diesel Announced

MUNICH—BMW continues the expansion of its newly launched 4 Series product Bildschirmfoto 2013-10-18 um 15.27lineup with the announcement and market introduction of the all-new BMW 4 Series Convertible.  The convertible is the second model of the 4 Series and follows the Coupe, which celebrated its debut at this years IAA (International Automobile Show) in Frankfurt, Germany.

At launch, the new convertible will be offered with a choice of two petrol engines as well as one diesel, namely the BMW 428i Convertible with a four-cylinder powerplant, the BMW 435i Convertible, with a turbocharged in-line six-cylinder engine, and the BMW 420d Convertible with a four-cylinder diesel. Models with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system as well as additional engine variants will follow starting next spring.

In addition to environmentally friendly engines, BMWs EfficientDynamics package also plays a key role in improving fuel economy and reducing CO2 emissions as compared to the previous generation. Features such as the Auto Start Stop function and Brake Energy Regeneration have been updated with newly developed fuel saving options including the Proactive Driving Assistant, a feature that can result in an overall fuel saving of 20%. In combination with the eight-speed automatic transmission, the new BMW 4 Series also offers a sailing mode where the car can decouple the driveline and shut down the engine when the driver backs off the accelerator without activating the brakes, thus leading to improved fuel economy as well.

Technology and safety features which are available as options include the BMW ConnectedDrive product package and driver assistant options such as BMW’s Heads-Up Display, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, and Active Blind Spot Detection,

The BMW 428i and 435i convertibles are expected to arrive at U.S. dealerships in the first quarter of 2014.  There are no plans to offer the 420d in the U.S. at this time.
