New Volkswagen Passat TDI with 800 Mile Range Introduced

Volkswagen announced pricing and details for the 2012 Passat, which includes the Passat TDI that will deliver an incredible 43 mpg (5.47 l/100 km or 2.33 gallons/100 miles).  This gives the new Passat a range of almost 800 miles (1287 km).

The new Passat was designed for the North American market and has a 110.4” wheelbase with an overall length of 191.7 inches.

The VW Passat TDI will be available in three trim levels with a starting price of $25,995.  The base SE level includes 17” alloy wheels, heated front seats, a six-speed manual transmission, and Volkswagen’s touchscreen Premium VIII radio.  An automatic DSG gearbox is optional.  Other features include a leather multi-function steering wheel, aluminum trim, exterior chrome trim, and a sliding front center armrest.

Options include leather seats, wood trim, ambiance lighting, memory driver’s seat, power passenger seat, a choice of two navigation systems, fog lights with cornering lights, and keyless access and ignition.

A brand new Fender Premium Audio System is also available.

The Passat TDI SE with sunroof and DSG transmission starts at $27,895.  The TDI SE with Sunroof and Navi starts at $29,495 and comes with 18” alloy wheels, the RNS 315 navigation system, an MDI (mobile device interface) for portable MP3 players, fog lights, and exterior chrome accents.

The Passat TDI Premium starts at $32,195 and is equipped with leather seats, upgraded “comfort” sports seats, keyless access, ignition, and remote start, the RNS 510 navigation system, the Fender audio system, driver seat memory, 8-way power passenger seat, wood grain interior, and interior chrome accents.

The entry-level (gasoline-powered) Passat SE starts at $19,995 with 16” wheels, manual transmission, and Bluetooth connectivity.  The top-of-the-line gasoline Passat is the 3.6L SEL Premium, which starts at $32,950 and is similarly equipped to the Passat TDI Premium.
