I test drove one of these cars myself. Four door, six speed. It is a thing of beauty.

I can tell you that diesel cars are really meant for gobbling up hours of interstate driving. The golf TDI is no different.

The golf has a sweetness of its own. The motor is lovely quiet. The clutch I admit is a touch touchy in starting out in first gear, but once you've done a few rows of the gear, it becomes second nature.

The fit and finish on this car is superb.

I admit I am biased as I own a 2005 Passat TDI that has had its balance shaft converted from a chain driven unit to a gear driven unit because of that early 2.0 liter's ill-thought out design. The new 2.0 liter of the Golf uses the superb gear driven balance shaft so the car should be very robust for a long time. The 2.0 liter also is even cleaner than the Passat's motor. We can all thank ultra low sulfur diesel for helping the air be cleaned about diesels.
