New BMW X5 xDrive35d Unveiled
First introduced in 2009, the BMW X5 xDrive35d, which recently has accounted for a third of X5 sales, will be all new for 2011 with an updated exterior and interior. The new model continues to lead its segment in fuel economy (19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway) and torque (425 pound-feet).
While the powertrain continues unchanged, the exterior and interior receive significant design updates which enhance its powerful good looks. The new front is reminiscent of the recently introduced X3 and the rear adopts the new L-shaped tail lights that have become a fixture of BMW’s nighttime appearance.
The X5’s petrol-powered stable mates receive all-new powerplants. The X5 BMW X5 xDrive50i is the new flagship of the X5 family and produces 400 hp and 450 pound-feet of torque. The X5 xDrive35i receives a brand new 3.0-liter 300-hp engine with a single twin-scroll turbocharger.
A variety of driver assistance features will be available on all new X5 as well, including Active Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Lane Departure Warning, Active Steering, Head-Up Display, and side-view and top-view cameras. Other new options include four-zone automatic climate control, a rear seat entertainment system, Nappa leather seats, Nappa leather-covered dashboard and center console, Comfort Access with keyless entry, and smartphone integration.
Several new exterior colors will be available including Deep Sea Blue, Platinum Grey, and Sparkling Bronze and the interior can be specified in Oyster or Cinnamon Brown leather.
The new X5 will be unveiled in April at the New York Auto Show and will be at BMW dealerships shortly thereafter.
